“Mental health refers to our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act.” – CDC
Mental health plays an important role in our education. Having poor mental health can lead to poor academic performance, but on the other hand, having proper mental health will lead to good academic performance. Learn more about this in The Cycle.
There are many benefits of having proper mental health. These include less to no stress, more confidence, better social relationships, improved learning, more positivity, more productivity, and there are a plethora of other benefits.
According to a survey, which was done throughout the entire middle school, stress was the leading mental health factor which affected their education affecting around 62% of students. Anxiety followed affecting around 16% of students. Sleep difficulties and depression affected around 4% of students. Around 95% of the students chose one of the 4 factors or all of the above. This means that most students do suffer from poor mental health to some extent whether its just a little, or a lot.
We are 2 aspiring students in 8th grade trying to alert the world about a problem that isn’t emphasized enough (Mental Health and Education’s Correlation). We believe that many students like us, suffer from stress and anxiety in school work. Many people do not know how to calm themselves down and sometimes don’t even know that they are stressed.
With this project, we aim to spread awareness and assist people who need mental aid. Many students are struggling mentally, and school can be a fuel for that. This problem isn’t talked about too much, so we made this website to educate people about this problem.
On February 27 and 29, of this year we hosted an assembly at our school, Magellan. We presented to all of the middle school students in our school with hopes of spreading our word and trying to get anyone in need of help the things they need. Additionally, we presented to Dell Toastmasters here in Austin, so we could improve our speaking and presentation skills.
